These Salisbury steak meatballs are a delightful twist on the classic dish. Tender beef meatballs smothered in a rich and savory gravy, they’re perfect for a comforting meal any day of the week.
Ingredients
For the meatballs:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated onion
- 1 egg
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the gravy:
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated onion, egg, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
- Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter, and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until they are cooked through and lightly browned.
- While the meatballs are baking, prepare the gravy. In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Sprinkle the flour over the melted butter and whisk until it forms a smooth paste. Cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Gradually pour in the beef broth, whisking constantly to prevent lumps from forming.
- Stir in the heavy cream and Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Allow the gravy to simmer for 5-7 minutes, or until it has thickened to your desired consistency.
- Once the meatballs are cooked, transfer them to the skillet with the gravy. Gently toss to coat the meatballs in the gravy.
- Serve the Salisbury steak meatballs hot, garnished with chopped parsley if desired. They’re delicious over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles. Enjoy!
