These savory meatball boats are a delightful twist on traditional meatball dishes. Filled with flavorful meatballs and topped with gooey cheese, they make for a perfect appetizer or main course.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 hoagie rolls or sub rolls
- 1 cup marinara sauce
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
- Shape the meat mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
- Place the meatballs on the prepared baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until cooked through.
- While the meatballs are baking, prepare the hoagie rolls. Use a knife to cut a V-shaped hollow in the center of each roll, creating a “boat” shape.
- Once the meatballs are cooked, remove them from the oven and set aside. Increase the oven temperature to 400°F (200°C).
- Spoon marinara sauce into each hoagie roll boat, filling the hollowed-out center.
- Place cooked meatballs on top of the marinara sauce in each roll, dividing them evenly among the boats.
- Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese over the meatballs in each boat, covering them generously.
- Place the assembled meatball boats back in the oven and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove the meatball boats from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before serving.
- Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired, and serve warm. Enjoy your delicious meatball boats!
