ITALIAN MEATLOAF RECIPE

This recipe delivers a flavorful and comforting Italian-inspired meatloaf.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef (85% lean)
  • ½ pound ground pork
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 carrot, diced
  • 1 celery stalk, diced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh basil
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ⅔ cup panko breadcrumbs
  • ¾ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • ¾ cup marinara sauce, divided

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a loaf pan.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion, carrot, and celery. Sauté for 5-7 minutes, or until softened.
  3. Stir in the garlic and cook for another minute. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, cooled vegetable mixture, panko breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, chopped basil, Worcestershire sauce, and black pepper. Mix well to combine.
  5. Shape the mixture into a loaf and place it in the prepared loaf pan. Top with half of the marinara sauce.
  6. Bake uncovered for 45 minutes.
  7. Remove from the oven and spoon the remaining marinara sauce over the top. Bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the internal temperature of the meatloaf reaches 160°F (70°C).
  8. Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy with your favorite sides!
