Golden and crispy French fries, perfect as a snack or side dish.
Ingredients
- 4 large russet potatoes
- 2-3 cups vegetable oil (for frying)
- Salt (to taste)
- Optional seasonings: paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper
Instructions
- Prepare the Potatoes:
- Peel the potatoes if desired.
- Cut the potatoes into uniform strips, about 1/4 inch thick.
- Place the cut potatoes in a large bowl of cold water. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch.
- Preheat the Oil:
- In a large, deep pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 325°F (165°C).
- First Fry:
- Drain the potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels.
- Working in batches, fry the potatoes in the hot oil for about 5-6 minutes, until they are soft but not browned.
- Remove the fries with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined baking sheet to drain.
- Increase Oil Temperature:
- Increase the oil temperature to 375°F (190°C).
- Second Fry:
- Again, working in batches, fry the partially cooked potatoes for 2-3 minutes, until they are golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the fries with a slotted spoon and place them on fresh paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Season and Serve:
- Immediately season the hot fries with salt and any additional seasonings you prefer.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
