BAKING CHOCOLATE CAKE RECIPE

A rich, moist chocolate cake perfect for any celebration or just a sweet indulgence. This classic recipe yields a tender and flavorful cake that pairs beautifully with your favorite frosting.

Ingredients

  • For the Cake:
  • 1 3/4 cups (220g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups (300g) granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup (75g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup (240ml) whole milk
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (240ml) boiling water
  • For the Frosting:
  • 1 cup (230g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 1/2 cups (440g) powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup (50g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round baking pans.
  1. Prepare the Cake Batter:
  • In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  • Stir in the boiling water until the batter is well combined. The batter will be thin, but that’s okay.
  1. Bake the Cake:
  • Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, remove the cakes from the pans and transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

  • In a large bowl, beat the butter on medium speed until creamy.
  • Gradually add the powdered sugar and cocoa powder, beating on low speed until combined. Increase the speed to medium and beat for another minute.
  • Add the salt, vanilla extract, and heavy cream. Beat on high speed for 3 minutes until the frosting is light and fluffy. Add more cream if needed to reach the desired consistency.

  • Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous amount of frosting on top.
  • Place the second cake layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining frosting.
  • Decorate as desired.
